Limitations of a Free LinkedIn Account
A free LinkedIn account allows you to freely set up your profile and enjoy basic features. However, you cannot:
- Send messages to people who are not connected with you
- See who visits your profile
- Visit more than 100 profiles per day
- Obtain more than 1000 results per profile search
- Perform an unlimited number of searches each month
- Access “advanced” information on companies and job offers
The Most Popular LinkedIn Premium Plans
If you need to recruit, prospect, or find a new job, it's probably better to switch to a paid plan.
Here are all the paid plans offered by LinkedIn:
Among LinkedIn's paying users, a consensus clearly emerges: 3 plans offer more value than the others.
These 3 plans are: Career, Recruiter, and Sales Navigator Core.
Why not the other plans?
- LinkedIn Business is very expensive for the included features (almost identical to Career). And for only $30 more, you can have Sales Navigator Core (and make a real leap forward in terms of features).
- Only Recruiter allows searches with the “Open to Work” filter (but not Recruiter Lite). Recruiter Lite is of little interest.
- For sales teams under 20, Sales Navigator Advanced and Advanced Plus offer nothing decisive.
Common Benefits of All LinkedIn Premium Plans
Here are the 5 benefits that form the “common core” of Premium subscriptions:
Sending InMails
InMails are private messages that allow you to contact anyone on LinkedIn, including people with whom you are not connected.
Free account users do not have this feature.
The advantage of InMails is to skip the preliminary step of sending a connection request:
Discover Who Viewed Your Profile
LinkedIn Premium subscriptions allow you to see who visited your profile.
This feature has several uses:
- If you are job searching, you can see recruiters and HR managers interested in your profile and contact them.
- If you are prospecting, you can identify people who fit your ICP (ideal customer profile) and proactively start a conversation.
- If you are recruiting, you can see candidates who have visited your profile and invite them to apply.
Activate the Open Profile Option
By activating the Open Profile option, you allow your 2nd and 3rd degree connections to contact you for free via InMail.
No InMail credits will be deducted.
Here's how LinkedIn indicates an “Open” profile:
To activate the “Open Profile” option on your profile, edit your profile, click on “Open Profile” and then switch it to “On”:
Access to LinkedIn Learning
LinkedIn Learning is a catalog of training courses freely accessible to those with a Premium subscription.
Over 16,000 courses are available on just about every imaginable subject:
You can train on topics as diverse as:
- Artificial intelligence
- Entrepreneurship
- Management
- Job searching
- Sales
- Recruitment, etc.
It's a fantastic knowledge base.
Furthermore, you can add “learning certificates” to your profile upon completing a course:
Employers are increasingly sensitive to candidates who proactively develop their skills. It’s an excellent way to enhance your profile.
Perform an Unlimited Number of Searches
With a free LinkedIn account, searches are doubly limited.
First, each search allows a maximum of 1000 results.
Second, the number of searches that can be performed each month is capped. This cap varies depending on the account's age. LinkedIn does not provide a clear numerical value. This is known as the “commercial limit.” Beyond this limit, you will see this message:
With a Premium plan, the number of results per search increases from 1000 to 2500, and it becomes possible to perform an unlimited number of searches per month.
Now, let's look at the specifics of each plan in detail.
LinkedIn Premium Career: $39.99
This subscription is intended for job seekers.
With Premium Career you have access to:
- 5 InMails per month
- See people who have visited your profile in the last 365 days
- More information on job offers and candidates
- Over 16,000 LinkedIn Learning courses
- The option to highlight your application with the “Featured Application” feature
In summary, Premium Career allows you to easily communicate with recruiters (InMails) and see accounts interested in your profile. You also have privileged access to information about job offers (candidates, average salary offered). According to a LinkedIn study, candidates with Premium Career are recruited almost 3x faster than their counterparts on a free plan.
LinkedIn Premium Learning: $39.99
This subscription is very similar to Premium Career. It's a different gateway to (almost) the same product.
Of course, you will have access to over 16,000 LinkedIn Learning courses, as well as all the features of Premium Career.
LinkedIn Learning does, however, differ from Career in one aspect: the existence of “For Teams” subscriptions (which Career does not have).
If you want to develop your team's skills, this version of the Learning product may be interesting. You will have access to tracking tools to visualize your team's skill development.
LinkedIn Premium Business: $69.99
Let's say it right away, this is the least interesting plan!
With Premium Business you have access to everything already available with Premium Career plus two additional elements:
- The number of InMails increases from 5 to 15 per month.
- You have access to advanced information on companies.
In summary, you pay €30 more than the Career plan for essentially 10 additional InMails. That's €3 per InMail. A bit excessive.
LinkedIn Sales Navigator Core: $99.99
This subscription is intended for salespeople and entrepreneurs looking to find prospects in their target market.
It's the plan that offers the most "value for money."
With Premium Sales Navigator Core you have access to:
- The Sales Navigator prospecting platform
- Advanced search filters to target your prospects
- 50 InMails per month
- Automatic prospect suggestions
- The ability to save 10,000 prospects in lists
- Advanced information on companies
To best utilize LinkedIn Sales Navigator, it's often necessary to use a scraping tool to export your search results into a CSV file. Here is a list of interesting tools for doing this:
- Vayne.io (best quality/price ratio)
- Scrupp.com
- Phantombuster.com
- Evaboot.com
You can then upload your prospect list to Icypeas to find their email addresses.
Exporting your prospects also allows you to add them to your CRM for tracking your sales actions (outbound / nurturing).
LinkedIn Sales Navigator Advanced: $169.99
The Sales Navigator Advanced subscription contains the features of Sales Navigator Core, plus:
- Team management (centralized billing for all your team members who have a Sales Navigator Advanced license)
- SSO connection
It is clearly an offer dedicated to large companies.
LinkedIn Sales Navigator Advanced Plus: $189.99
The minimum order for the Sales Navigator Advanced Plus license is 20 licenses.
The Sales Navigator Advanced Plus subscription contains the features of Sales Navigator Advanced, as well as CRM integration (with Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and Hubspot).
This CRM integration allows you to keep all your contact sheets in your CRM up to date, thanks to LinkedIn data.
LinkedIn Recruiter Lite: $169.99
This subscription is for recruiters who want to find their ideal candidate but cannot afford the Recruiter subscription (about $749 per month).
With Premium Recruiter Lite you have access to:
- 30 InMails per month
- Access to +15 advanced filters to find candidates
- Candidate suggestions
- A space to centralize and track all your recruitment operations
Most recruiters believe that the “Recruiter Lite” license is not sufficient for effective recruiting. Moreover, for a price almost half less, the Sales Navigator Core license provides access to more search filters.
LinkedIn Recruiter: $749
The Recruiter subscription is used by teams planning more than 5 or 6 hires in a year or those recruiting for high-demand roles (web developers, executive managers, etc.). It's also the license found in all headhunting firms.
LinkedIn Recruiter entitles you to:
- 150 InMails per month
- Access to over 40 advanced filters to find candidates, including the "Open to Work" filter
- Candidate suggestions
- A space to centralize and track all your recruitment operations
There is a minimum of one-year commitment. The LinkedIn sales team is entitled to offer a maximum discount of 5%.
